Holistic treatments for dog with Staph allergy wanted.?

My 6 year old French Bulldog Leo has a Staph allergy (i.e. an allergy to Staph bacteria that normally covers dogs and people and is usually harmless unless injury or weakened immune system is involved)that has resulted in a horrendous skin condition: loss of hair over large amounts of his body, crusty skin, shedding skin cells by the piles. He is on steroids to control itching (which I hate and only provides little relief anyway). The only treatment that my vet suggests (and the only treatment my research has turned up) is allergy shots by a vet specializing in dermatology -- the nearest of whom is over 60 miles away. Anyone know of holistic treatments for this condition or at least treatments that may ease his suffering?

My sister's dog (an oversized Sheltie almost as big as a collie) has a staph allergy as well. She found that Sensible Choice chicken and lamb food was the only thing that the dog liked and that didn't exacerbate her condition.

She also bathed the dog once a week with a medicated shampoo and applies hydrogen peroxide wherever there was problem skin almost daily. After several months of this, she was on reduced steroids and was able to completely eliminate the steroids after less than a year. Bathing has been reduced to once every other week with hydrogen peroxide following after brushing and combing. Also, fish oil capsules daily seem to help as well, although I don't really know why. The dog gets a Beggin Strip afterwards, so she is happy to have her fish oil. Buy lots of bottles of Hydrogen peroxide and cotton balls because you will go through a lot of it.

So far, we have never had to put an animal down because we couldn't afford a treatment, but chronic illnesses can break a budget. These options were affordable and worked for her dog.
