Where to find Veg Capsule herbs?

Specifically Blessed Thistle. I need to up my milk supply, but no place in Virginia seems to sell veg capsules for this herb (which is the one I know works). I tried on Amazon, and random net searches and nothing!! Help!

you can buy the empty capsules and buy the bulk blessed thistle online or at health food stores like whole foods (which also sells the veg capsules but FYI, the best way to take herbs is a tincture and the worst way to take them is in capsule form. In the middle are taking them in tea form --worse than tinctures --better than capsules.

Be sure your blessed thistle is organic or wild crafted as these herbs contain 7-10 times the pytochemicals that cure and prevent diseases etc. than conventional herbs which are barely potent at all.

Tinctures are best as the menstrum extracts more of the pytochemicals than water in a tea while capsules are not easily absorbed.

Also many times the herbs are burnt (and thus damaged) in the powdering process. Then tincture preserves the renins in a plant while the others forms don't

Also herbs get old in powder form and lose potency after several months. Tinctures last many years and some up to 100 years old have been found to be fine. So the herbs last a long time when in tincture form

Teas are also good and if you use distilled water, more of the pytochemicals will be extracted so try to always use distilled water as it is empty when making teas. Hard plant parts like stems, bark, roots and hard berries are made into decoction which is boiling the herb in distilled water for 15 minutes,

Softer parts of plants/..leaves, flowers, soft berries, fresh herbs are made into an infusion which is made by pouring boiling water over the herb in a bag or tea ball and letting it steep as a traditional tea is usually made.

a good brand I recommend for tinctures is herbpharm but they are very easy to make and I save 80-90% on the cost. You can email me for how to make tinctures if you like.

I looked in Dr Christopher's big herbal and the following herbs are galactagogues (herbs that increase the secretion of milk) so they can be used interchangeably:

anise seed, blessed thistle, buckwheat poultice (flowers with buttermilk-apply to the breast), centaurea, fennel, garden carrot (tincture or juice), goat's rue, jaborandi (small dose), milk thistle, red raspberries (enrich). vervain.

sometimes moms think the baby is not getting enough milk when they actually are. These websites help one determine if the baby is getting enough milk. Please be aware that when the doctors height and weight charts were made in the 40s and 50s hardly anyone was breastfeeding and thus the charts were made on the much heavier bottlefed babies.

Breastfeed babies tend to be in the bottom 10% or so of the chart. My very healthy son breastfeed exclusively for several months and weaned at a late age was generally at the bottom of the doctor's chart and a healthy lean and in line with other babies and toddlers in my laleche league group. The best way to increase breastfeeding is to nurse more often and longer..the breast milk will regulate itself to the child's sucking..if he sucks more, the beast will produce more. The breast feed baby completely digest his food perfectly and thus its stomach empties much quicker than the bottle-fed baby who nurses a bottle every 4 hours or so. The breast feed child's stomach is empty after 2 hours and he thus gets hungry again. This may lead new moms to think the baby is not getting enough milk..in my m,other;s day they said the milk was not enough if it was thin and blue but this is how breastmilk is..so all those kid's got cheated of lifelong benefits and few moms breastfed when I was an infant/toddler.

Your child and you are receiving literally over 100 benefits from breastfeeding including especially if exclusively breastfeed and weaned at age 2-5, an IQ about 10-15 points higher. Although I stimulated intellectually my first child a lot, I bottle-fed him. I did way way less intellectual stimulation for my 2nd son who I enjoyed and nurtured more..my bottlefed who I gave a highly stimulating environment to have an IQ in the 150s.

At age 30 this summer, he is still benefiting from his high IQ by having a great job and being so good at a job that requires intelligence thus affecting the quality of his life so breastfeeding benefits from a certain style of breastfeeding (on demand, child led weaning) which is a lifelong gift from a little more nursing attention and putting his needs to nurse first which is a small price to pay for this lifelong benefit. Although high IQs run in the family they are not generally that high.
