Should I start taking 21st Century Organics Spirulina Capsules? I heard spirulina is a "superfood"?

I want to lose weight (mostly just achieve more definition), have better skin, hair and nails, and a better immune system. Its not that I'm overweight, have bad skin, or rough hair, but I heard that Miranda Kerr takes a green powder which contains spirulina. Would taking these pills be like the same as taking the powder?

There are a few aspects to this answer. Spirulina is commonly considered a "super food" because of the high concentration of all sorts of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, Chlorophyll, etc... but there isn't much benefit for weight loss more than regular diet and exercise. There is Chlorophyll, which can help cleanse the system and can help the body lose weight more efficiently, but it doesn't have a whole lot of it. As far as hair, skin, and nails, there isn't much Silica or Biotin (the main nutrients that help produce connective tissues like hair, skin, and nails) either.

Spirulina is a fantastic nutrient that has all sorts of benefits for good health and can certainly help with overall health and some aspects of each of those benefits you're looking for, but there are also other natural options that can help even more. Although with that being said, any good quality brand of Spirulina would be just as good as any other good quality brand... when it comes to herbs, there's only so many good sources of any given herb. So long as all the companies have a good rating with either the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or USP (U.S. Pharmacopoeia), as those are the main quality assurance organizations (USP is for the U.S., GMP is for the U.S. and worldwide).

In regards to your last question, it would depend on what is in the green powder that Miranda Kerr takes as far as how similar Spirulina would be... that's kind of like asking if an orange would help you as much as a fruit salad.
